WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?

The definition of osteopathy is characterized as being much more than just for the bones! Contrary to what many people believe because of the term "osteo", osteopathic care is not only made for bones. Your osteopath's treatment takes bones and joints very seriously, but the osteopath goes further with everything that is related to them (muscles, ligaments, organs, skin, etc.). That is why osteopathy is said to be holistic, that is, comprehensive. The benefits of osteopathic treatments are therefore multiple!

HOW DOES A TREATMENT WITH OUR OSTEOPATH WORK?

Osteopathy treatment is a gentle manual approach. It is with the help of their hands and a thorough questioning of your medical condition and past injuries that the Osteopath will detect areas of your body that need help, relief or strengthening. Through this process, the Osteopath will try to find the cause of your problem or its origin. Normally, you should feel the benefits of an Osteopathic treatment when you leave your session. Otherwise, a good Osteopath will be able to guide you towards complementary therapy that can help you recover more quickly according to your injury or illness.

WHEN SHOULD YOU CONSULT AN OSTEOPATH?

You should consult an osteopath as soon as small signs of discomfort are felt. The sooner you seek treatment, the fewer sessions will be needed for your recovery. In osteopathy, it is suggested to consult at each change of season to ensure that everything is going well, much like when you take your car to the garage for an oil change. You do not wait until it is clogged by an additional 2000 Km. We should do the same for our body, which is our vehicle for movement and functioning in our daily lives. By seeing an osteopath regularly, we ensure good lubrication of the joints and relaxation of muscular tension on a daily basis.

WHAT ARE THE APPROACHES OR TECHNIQUES USED OUR OSTEOPATH?

Different approaches enable our osteopath Samuel to understand the issue of the person in his office. We are proud to provide the best osteopathy service to improve the quality of life of our patients. Here is a brief description of some of them:

With our postural osteopathic approach, we conduct a complete evaluation of your posture to reduce back pain, neck pain, knee pain, sciatica, and numbness. This approach is particularly beneficial for those who spend long hours in the same position. With Samuel, our osteopath, you can expect an improvement in your posture, a reduction in pain, and an increase in your overall well-being.

VISCERAL APPROACH (Visceral Osteopathy)

Samuel's osteopathy service offers an innovative visceral approach that provides specialized care to our organs, which work tirelessly day and night. The health of these organs is crucial to our overall well-being, and for this reason, it is important to give them special attention. Our osteopathic visceral approach is the ideal solution for those who suffer from digestive problems such as constipation, diarrhea, bloating, acid reflux or heartburn. It is also effective in relieving respiratory problems such as seasonal allergies and sinusitis, as well as helping women maintain good health during pregnancy, postpartum follow-up, or painful menstruation. PEDIATRIC APPROACH (Osteopathy for babies)

Birth is a key event in a human's life that can leave traces on the body and well-being of infants. Whether it's a natural birth, a cesarean section, or assisted birth, the tensions and compressions experienced during delivery can cause health problems in infants such as colic, reflux, difficulty drinking, constipation, and agitation. With Samuel's osteopathic approach for infants, it is possible to relieve these tensions and improve their comfort in just one or two sessions. This gentle and non-invasive method helps to restore body balance and promote healthy development in infants.

SOMATO-EMOTIONAL APPROACH (Energetic Osteopathy)

Who hasn't heard expressions such as "having a lump in your throat", "having a pain in the neck", or "carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders"? These expressions perfectly describe the impact of stress on our bodies. In fact, stress and emotions can cause muscular tension that results in physical pain. Samuel's somato-emotional osteopathic approach recognizes the close relationship between the body and emotions and aims to relieve physical symptoms caused by stress, anxiety, or difficult life events. If you suffer from migraines, headaches, fatigue, sleep disorders, or teeth grinding (bruxism), this approach is for you. Come and discover how somato-emotional osteopathy can help you feel better in your body and in your daily life.

HOW DOES OSTEOPATHY DIFFER FROM MASSAGE THERAPY, PHYSIOTHERAPY, AND CHIROPRACTIC?

How does osteopathy differ from massage therapy, physiotherapy, and chiropractic?

That's quite a question! First of all, it should be mentioned that all of these therapies are based on manual therapies, but their techniques and approaches differ.

While osteopathy aims to be holistic, the other therapies will focus on the area where you have pain. Sometimes this focus is necessary, but sometimes it doesn't solve the problem, because the problem comes from elsewhere.

The example of the blanket on the bed is often cited by osteopaths. If someone is pulling the blanket in the bed, who ends up feeling cold? It's obviously the one who is not pulling it. Sometimes, in the body, a place hurts and it's not even its fault. It is therefore necessary to wake up the part of the body that is pulling the blanket and tell it to stop pulling it in order to give a little back to the area that hurts.

That's what osteopathy seeks to do.

OSTEOPATHY and MASSAGE THERAPY

Massage therapy is probably the most holistic therapy after osteopathy, and this is because it can touch, through muscle massage, your whole body during a single session.

Massage therapy is an excellent ally for osteopathy because it can offer a moment of relaxation between two osteopathy sessions and thus provide the osteopath with a clearer field to work more deeply.

OSTEOPATHY and PHYSIOTHERAPY

Physiotherapy will mainly focus on the musculoskeletal system (back pain, neck pain, knee pain, herniated disc, sciatic pain). Sometimes manual techniques will be used, sometimes tools (dry needles or TENS), and sometimes exercises. It is excellent for restoring joint movement after surgery or a sprain-type injury.

Osteopathy goes well with physiotherapy in the principle that the osteopath will ensure that everything works well around the pain that is present. Let's take the example of an ankle sprain that has been going on for several weeks and prevents full weight bearing. There will have been compensation with the opposite foot to avoid putting weight on the injured side of the ankle.

The osteopath will take into consideration the parts of the body that need to compensate and will do some prevention to avoid having pain on the foot that has to work harder during the healing of the other. The physiotherapist will then focus on strengthening the injured ankle after it has healed.

OSTEOPATHY and CHIROPRACTIC

It is said that osteopathy and chiropractic were once twins. There was a moment when they separated from the family nest and forged their own identity. The familiarity of the two therapies rests on the great importance associated with the spine. While chiropractic mainly focuses on the muscles and ligaments attached to it, osteopathy goes further by taking into consideration everything that is attached to it (organs, arms, and legs).

Due to its repetitive nature, chiropractic is an excellent combination with your osteopathic treatments to ensure that everything stays in place after your osteopathy session.
